Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form It is a slender and erect shrub or small tree up to 3 m tall.
Foliage Its opposite, stalked leaves have membranous leaf blades that are narrowly elliptic-oblong, hairless on both surfaces except at the midrib and veins, and 20–30.5 by 4.4 cm.
Flowers Its flowers grow singly or in clusters of 2 at the ends of a twig, are hanging, large, funnel-shaped, white turning pale cream and blotched with purple in the corolla tube, and 10.1–15.2 by 5–7.6 cm at the mouth.
Fruit Its fruit is oblong, green, hairy, and 3.8–5 cm long.
Habitat It grows in the understorey of forests.
Associated Fauna Its flowers are insect-pollinated.
Cultivation It can be propagated by seed.
Ethnobotanical Uses Cultural / Religious: Its juice may be used for blackening teeth.
