Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form It is a bulb which usually grows 60 to 80 cm and forms clumps. High water requirement makes it a good plant for water gardens.
Foliage Leaves are green and grass-like. They radiate up then down, forming a weeping pattern.
Flowers Flower is light yellow with dark brown blotches at the bases. About 5 cm diameter, flowers are short lived and produced throughout the year.
Fruit Fruit is dry, egg-shaped about 1 – 2.5 cm long, and persists on plant.
Etymology Dietes comes from Greek words that mean “with two relatives” in reference to the relationship of this plant to Iris and Moraea. Bicolor means having two colours.
