Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form A herbaceous, deciduous climber. 
Foliage The ovate leaves are alternately arranged along the stems and have a papery texture and an acuminate leaf tip and a rounded base. The lower leaf surface is covered with hairs, the upper leaf surface is glabrous. 
Flowers The flower inflorescence is a spike and is leaf-opposing, the male inflorescence is much longer than the female inflorescence. 
Fruit The fruit is spherical to ovoid in shape and turns red when ripe.
