Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form Scrambling woody shrub, able to grow up to 4 - 8 m tall and with a spread of 1 - 1.5 m wide.
Stems Stems have thorns that are found at the leaf axils.
Flowers Tubular flowers, creamy white, measuring about 2.5 cm wide and covered by petal-like bracts which turn from gold to pink upon maturity.
Etymology Genus Bougainvillea is named after Louis Antoine de Bougainville (1729 - 1811), who was a French naval officer.
