| Description | A member of the cuckoo family. Males have a glossy black plumage, while females are brown above, with white and light brown spots. Both sexes have bright red eyes and pale beaks. While males somewhat resemble crows, they have relatively longer tails, and faster wing beats. |
Ecology, Habitat & Location
| Ecological Notes | Largely frugivorous. Its call is a distinctive disyllabic "ko-el". Like other true cuckoos, the Asian Koel is a brood parasite which lays its eggs in the nests of crows, which end up raising its young. |

| Distribution | Throughout most of the Indian subcontinent, south and east China, and Southeast Asia. In Singapore, this species has significantly increased in abundance over the past two decades. |
