Description

Size 2.5 m TL
Description Head distinct from body. Body shiny black with a seies of 40 to 50 narrow bright yellow bands. The local subspecies, B. dendrophila melanota, has bands which do not meet over the back. Scales on the throat and along the lips bright yellow with black edges.

Ecology, Habitat & Location

Ecological Notes Nocturnal. Mildly venemous (rear-fanged). Feeds on small vertebrates such as lizards, birds, and small mammals.

Distribution In Singapore, recorded mainly from the Central Catchment Nature Reserve. Various subspecies occur in the Malay Peninsula, Borneo, Sumatra, Java, Sulawesi and the Philippines.
