Description

Description Its a black and white butterfly like the other species of the genus Idea, but the marginal and submarginal spots are conjoined to form an irregular black band, and wing bases are yellow-tinted. Like the other Idea species, the butterfly glides gracefully amongst the treetops and floats like a piece of paper.

Ecological Notes A primarily seashore species which frequents mangrove and back-mangrove habitats.

Distribution Widely distributed from Taiwan across South East Asia.

Conservation

Conservation Notes This species owes its continued survival in Singapore to the retention of a very small mangrove area on Pulau Tekong, where a colony still survives. The species has not been seen anywhere else in Singapore.
