Description

Size 25 cm
Description Bill short and legs dark brown. Breeding: underparts black; White line from sides of neck may be diffuse along flanks but always present. Non-breeding: pale-brown underparts and yellowish mottled greyish-brown upperparts.

Ecology, Habitat & Location

Habitats Mudflats
Distribution Breeds in North Central and East Siberia, West Alaska; The East Asian-Australasian population winters in East Asia, Southeast Asia and Australia. The other populations winter in East Africa, SW and South Asia. One of the most common birds found in Sungei Buloh. It is a very common winter visitor and passage migrant. A peak count of 2,000 individuals in Jan 2005 is exceptional. Found in Changi, Khatib Bongsu, Kranji, Mandai. Found in mudflats, prawn ponds, rivers, marshes. Also occurs on golf courses, playing fields, wet and short grassland.
