Description

Description Oval-shaped and laterally compressed. Body brown, heavily mottled with black. Hind part of dorsal fin, anal fin, pectoral fins and tail fin translucent. Mouth very wide, its corners reaching to beneath hind margin of eye.

Ecology, Habitat & Location

Ecological Notes Slow-flowing, well shaded forest streams. This fish is solitary and with its cryptic colouration, bears a strong resemblance to a piece of dead leaf. With this camouflage, it is able to sneak up to small fishes and prawns upon which it preys.

Distribution In Singapore, found in the Central Catchment Nature Reserve. Distributed in the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra and Borneo.
