OVERVIEW
Trees growing in urban areas have to withstand multiple stresses. Tropical storms, air pollution, wind tunnels, poor tree pruning, reduced root structure and compacted soils are some of the stresses which weaken urban trees. Urban stress factors inadvertently accelerate the ageing effects of trees such as branch, stem and root decay. Branches or trees may also fall, causing danger to humans and/or damaging properties. Therefore, visual assessment on urban trees has to be carried out regularly to identify hazardous trees and minimise risks.
This two-day course aims to provide learners with background knowledge in tree biology and equip them with basic skills for proper tree inspection. An essential feature of this course is the on-site practical training where participants will attempt their very own tree inspection under the guidance of the instructor. Proper tree inspection is crucial in mitigating tree failure and will aid tree care professionals in their work.
This course was formerly published as "Tree Inspection - Level 1".
