Abstract The topic of Biophilia, humankind’s innate biological connection with nature, is one of growing importance and central in the planning of parks and greenery in Singapore. Green streetscapes, public parks and nature reserves, as well as green spaces within developments, embed our city-state in nature. This system of public and private green serves to uplift minds and restore ecological continuity, contributing to the city’s liveability. The bringing of the built environment into alignment with the city’s ecosystem is discussed in this issue of CITYGREEN. Elizabeth Calabrese presents the concept of creating a Sense of Space with Biophilic Tapestry, and emphasizes the importance of integrating nature, natural systems and processes back into the built environment. The issue also features parks in the city for play and restoration, such as Jacob Ballas’ Children’s Garden, Admiralty Park and the Therapeutic Gardens at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park and Tiong Bahru Park.
